There are now many types of motors on the market, giving the modeller a good choice of power plants for their models. With the etched type of chassis, it is possible to be able to fit several different sized units into a given locomotive, provided of course that there is enough physical room to accommodate it within the body of the locomotive. In our kits and on the wheel pack chart we give a suggestion of a type that can be fitted.
It is important to give consideration to the type of work that is to be expected from a model, as to whether it should have the biggest motor possible, to haul long heavy trains, or if it is only going to perform light duties a small motor unit would suffice. In fitting a larger motor, it may be necessary to cut away a large section from under the boiler to accommodate it, thus losing some of the detail. A small motor will allow this detail to remain. So a choice can be made, between a working locomotive, or one that is to be looked at, for its detail. So decide what the models real function is to be. The motors that we recommend, lean toward the small size, so that maximum detail is obtained from the kit. Therefore if power is required then a bigger motor should be considered.
Currently we do not have a motor pack available for the Finecast range, but we are working to source suitable components. The store will be updated once they are available.
